At the U.S. Soy℠-sponsored symposium during the 2026 American Society of Animal Sciences Midwest meeting, Dr. Katelyn Gaffield, Assistant Research Professor in swine nutrition at Kansas State University, presented data from the large-scale soybean meal industry survey conducted by her team to evaluate the composition and consistency of U.S. soybean meal.
The survey tested samples from 27 crushing plants across 16 different companies that represent around 90% of the soybean industry in the U.S., looking at variability both between and within plants. Metrics analyzed included moisture, crude protein, ether extract, sucrose, neutral detergent fiber, trypsin inhibitor units, calcium, and particle size.
