Soybean meal is the primary protein source in conventional swine diets due to its favorable amino acid profile, availability and cost. However, differences among soybean varieties and processing methods can influence nutrient digestibility and energy availability and utilization.
These findings indicate that UHP-LO SBM improved overall digestibility of dry matter and gross energy and increased dietary digestible energy and metabolizable energy (ME), providing more energy per pound of feed. In practical terms, UHP-LO SBM delivered 98 kcal/kg more ME over conventional soybean meal, and as such, can be a higher energy source of protein for growing pigs.
