Dr. Leoni Martins presented on evaluating and feeding high oleic soybeans at the 2025 Penn State Dairy Nutrition Workshop. His presentation included a review of the research to date and an overview of preliminary data from a soybean characterization study he is conducting with 15-20 collaborator dairy farms across Pennsylvania.
Take home messages include:
- There is substantial variability in roasted soybean samples (e.g., DM and oleic acid concentration).
- Because nutrient composition can vary with environmental conditions, maturity, and storage, nutritionists should routinely analyze soybeans for DM, CP, total fatty acids and oleic acid composition.
