When formulated on analyzed energy and amino acid values, soy hulls can play a strategic role rather than just being a filler. A little fiber goes a long way in broilers. Small additions of soy hulls — 2–4% in starter diets — help stimulate gizzard development, lower gizzard pH and improve the breakdown of starch and protein. That early conditioning often translates into better feed conversion later on. In grower and finisher phases, moderate inclusions (3–5%) can maintain performance while improving gut consistency and litter quality. Birds tend to have drier droppings, which helps reduce footpad issues.
Layers are more forgiving with fiber. Soy hulls can help manage feed intake, improve satiety and maintain healthy gizzard function, all of which support stable egg production. Typical inclusion levels range from 5–10%, though some farms go as high as 15–20% when energy and amino acids are properly balanced and enzymes are included.
