In this second part of the U.S. Soy breakout session (“High soy for improved health”) at the 2025 Allen D. Leman Swine Conference, Dr. Brooke Smith, veterinary nutrition lead at Cargill Animal Nutrition, presents her work on reduced mortality in PRRSv-infected pigs fed soy isoflavones long term and what this could mean for producer profitability.
Key findings include that there were minimal effects on growth performance due to isoflavone supplementation and reduced mortality in the isoflavone treatment resulted in 6 more marketable pigs, resulting in a projected ~30% increase in revenue compared to disease-challenged pigs not supplemented with isoflavones despite having a greater proportion of pigs with weight penalties.
